Welcome to your September Issue of The Audiofile
New and exciting products have hit the market and we will feature some of these in this newsletter and some in future newsletters.
Wilson Speakers
Top American speakers that are stunning visually and sonically - the brand is Wilson and these are now available from The Listening Post.. We have a pair of Sophia 2 speakers in our showroom; they look great in their black high gloss finish and sound as good as they look. Consider these facts:
There is a full range of colours available ranging from subtle to bright. It's probably a case of designing the colour scheme of your room around the speakers!
Many of the older model Wilson speakers were often criticised as having a lean, clinical sound. Wilson have addressed this problem and the new models of Wilson speakers have a rich full sound.
Wilson speakers are a statement They are a very distinct design that will look fantastic in any setting. You could almost call them a piece of art!
Wilson speakers have a full range that will satisfy the needs of those who love two channel music and home theatre.
Why do Wilson speakers sound so good? Because what we have today is the result of knowledge gained in over 25 years of building uncompromised audio products for the home and the recording studio.
The history of Wilson Audio is interesting. The Company began as an audiophile recording label and migrated into making speakers because of David Wilson's interest in designing audio products. He first designed a turntable (debuted in 1973) and then made his first speakers, the original WAMM and Watt, as monitoring tools. Audiophiles heard of them, then listened to them and the rest is history. Wilson Audio never rests or loses sight of its goal: making only the best loudspeakers it can.

High Definition - future proof yourself
Hi Def is coming, will you have access to it when it comes? In the near future, high definition TV and DVD will be available and the resulting picture quality will be stunning, making what we watch today look ordinary by comparison. Why is Hi Def better? - well, TV as we know it now is transmitted in analogue format and each frame is drawn at 480 lines of information. Hi Def is transmitted in digital format at 1080 horizontal lines of information. A significant improvement.
Be warned, some TV's and projectors are being sold today as "high definition" but in fact will not be able to recognise this new format. If you are considering buying a TV or projector, don't be caught out; talk to us to get the right advice. We will help you make the right purchase now to avoid disappointment in the future.
Our Newest Staff Member - Domonic Cameron
Dom started with The Listening Post in December 2005 as an Install Assistant. We found that having one installer (Darin) was not enough to service the installation needs of our customers and weighed up whether to get another experienced person or get a school leaver and train him. We opted for the latter and interviewed and appointed Dom - a decision that has worked out extremely well. Besides being interested in cars, Dom is also interested in sound equipment and computers, a hobby that fits in well with his job. Dom's knowledge base is growing very fast and we know that it will not be long before he will be able to tackle most jobs by himself.
Graham's DVD - Crossroads Guitar Festival.
A greater proportion of my DVD purchases lately have been Music DVDs and one of my favourites at the moment is "Eric Clapton - Crossroads Guitar Festival" This double-DVD set captures over three hours of highlights from a three day event in June 2004 to benefit Eric Clapton's Crossroads Centre in Antigua. The artists include: Eric Clapton, J.J. Cale, Robert Cray, Jimmie Vaughan, James Taylor, Hubert Sumlin, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Carlos Santana, Jimmie Vaughn, Joe Walsh and ZZ Top.
What a line up and what a DVD - the music includes rootsy blues and country, folk, gospel, jazz, Indian classical music and good old fashioned rock. The film has many memorable performances including one song with Robert Cray, Jimmie Vaughan, Hubert Sumlin, B.B. King, Buddy Guy and Eric Claption all performing together.
All reviews of this DVD are very positive and one review that captured the film most for me was "Great performances by great guitarists.. Every artist that appears on this DVD looks as if they are having fun... It shows up in the music".
InFocus Video Projectors
InFocus have gone upmarket - the new models are very stylish and will look great in any setting. As with the older models, they perform extremely well, are very reliable and are great value for money. The company only manufactures video projectors and the large range retails from $1,999 to $29,999. The specifications on the base models are very impressive and compare more than favourably with equivalent products from other manufactures. Move up to the higher spec'd projectors and you will not want to go to a movie theatre again!
The main models that we expect to sell most of are:
IN72 - 854x480 resolution $3,299. A review states: "this baby delivers cinema quality, colour and brightness worthy of a Hollywood premier".
IN74 - 1024x576 resolution $4,499. A review states: "we were very impressed with the visual quality of the IN74's output from multiple sources".
IN76 - 1280x720 resolution $6,499. A review states: "the IN76 has one of the sharpest pictures we've seen in this price range, due partly to excellent scaling and in part to an all-glass lens of higher optical precision than is often found on this class of projector".
If you are interested in a video projector, come and talk to us, we have a model that will suit your requirements and budget. Click on the InFocus website address to find out more. http://www.infocus.com/
